Fertilizer Calculator

The Fertilizer Calculator helps greenhouse farmers in proper fertilization of crops as this calculator accurately determines the amount of fertilizer needed to mix stock solutions of fertilizers. The Fertilizer Calculator requires just a few inputs like the rate of fertilization, the percentage of Nitrogen / Phosphorous / Potassium in the fertilizer, etc.

The fertilizer calculator below will provide you the answer to the question “How many ounces of fertilizer would you have to weigh out to make 1 gallon of concentrate?”

What is a fertilizer injector?

Fertilizer injectors are a special tool for applying water-soluble fertilizers, pesticides, and mineral acids on plants. Most planters apply water-soluble fertilizers at a dilute concentration on a “constant feed” basis for proper growth of plants. The fertilizer injectors mix a small quantity of concentrated fertilizer solution into the irrigation water.

What is NPK value on fertilizer ?

All Fertilizer brands display three numbers that directly tells you about the amount of primary macro-nutrients. These are Nitrogen, Phosphorous, and Potassium. The first number out of three is the amount of nitrogen (N), the second number is the amount of phosphate (P2O5) and the third number is the amount of potash (K2O). These three numbers represent the primary nutrients (nitrogen(N) – phosphorus(P) – potassium(K)). Read homeowners guide to fertilizers.

What is fertilizer injector ratio ?

The injector ratio tells us the concentration of the stock solution and is needed to deliver a particular rate of fertilization. The fertilizer injector ratio is often given in parts per million (ppm) of Nitrogen (N) or Phosphorous (P) or Potassium (K).

It is often recommended that floricultural crops should get 150 to 250 ppm of Nitrogen in the irrigation water on a “constant feed” basis. Now different fertilizer brands are sold with a different fertilizer injector ratio. For example, there may be fertilizer with a ratio of 20-20-20 with 20% nitrogen or there may be another fertilizer with a 15-15-15 injector ratio containing 15% nitrogen. The calculator we have created (above) will allow you to find out how much Ounces of fertilizer of a particular ratio is needed for a Gallon of solution. You can understand the fertilizer injector ration meaning as under :

  • A 1:100 injector will deliver 100 gallons of dilute fertilizer solution for each gallon of concentrated stock solution and,
  • A 1:200 injector will deliver 200 gallons of dilute fertilizer for each gallon of concentrated stock solution (or 100 gallons of diluted solution per ½ gallon of stock) and
  • If both injectors were to deliver 200 ppm of nitrogen from the same fertilizer, the stock solution for the 1:200 injector would have to be twice as concentrated as the one for the 1:100 injector.
Hope this fertilizer calculator works for you and enhances productivity.
