There are two main types of fertilizers used in the USA – organic and synthetic (chemical). Organic fertilizers like manure, compost, and bone meal are derived from natural sources. They release nutrients slowly and improve soil health. Synthetic fertilizers like urea, ammonium nitrate, and superphosphate provide concentrated doses of nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. Follow product labels and soil test recommendations for proper application. For more information, refer to the University of Minnesota Extension on fertilizers.
